Arthur Couvat

Meet Arthur Couvat, the young Frenchman who can do it all. He’s mainly a director but also a photographer, editor, and cinematographer – if not more. His characteristic DIY approach is rooted in skate culture, where he’s grown up in. He is the founder of the skateboarding collective ‘Cinquième Terrasse,’ a community of skaters and friends that he grew up with. Throughout his childhood, he captured their lives and boarding skills – which concluded in him being as autodidactically crafted as he is now.

Born in the French Alps, with a background in living in Toronto and Paris, and now being based in the Netherlands, it’s clear that his cultural-curious mindset flows through in his work. He brings with him a passion for street culture, skateboarding, hip hop, sports, and fashion, alongside a love for real-life documentary-style moving imagery, fast shots, and a fresh, energetic, and experimental style. Couvat, who worked on campaigns for Nike, Footlocker, adidas, Kenzo, Carhartt WIP, Polaroid, and Rimowa, knows how to enlighten the core values of all that a brand’s got to give. Yet, also knows how to capture the world’s layers in documentaries and short films – like in his debut documentary Grottaroli – a short, melancholic film about the last generation of Italian fishermen living off the Adriatic Coast, which premiered at the Tribeca Festival in 2021.

The creative thus brings a complete arsenal of artistic abilities to the table – all of which he manages to incorporate into an eclectic mix of films peppered with his distinctive cultural know-how.
